We’re big fans of WordPress so today is a big day for us. After many months of hard word, the WordPress team released version 3.0 today of the open source CMS, code-named “Thelonious”.
Among the big new features:
- WordPress and WordPressMU have merged, so it’s now possible to run multiple sites from one install
- There’s a new default theme called Twenty Ten
- Contextual help on all admin pages
- Support for “shortlinks”
- Lighter admin theme
For developers like us there a number of welcome additions including
- Custom menu management
- Custom header and background APIs
- Auto-updating themes
- Custom post types and custom taxonomies. This allows content types like real-estate listings to be easily added without hacks.
